Vizion.ai is an enterprise-facing multi-cloud data management services platform that helps unlock the value of unstructured data by making it easier to find and share data scattered across public and private clouds.
Working in collaboration with Austin based creative agency, SeaLab, I was commissioned to help create a modern and approachable visual identity for Vizion.ai, as well as create visual design concepts for their MVP software, and assist with the user experience of the product.
Our main challenge was meeting a very strict 2-month deadline to have the product ready for the launch of VMworld 2018. During this time, we needed to:

Time constraints meant that Vizion.ai needed to be put into production right from the start of the project, so we used Adobe XD to rapidly prototype core screens and presented to the client and stakeholders early. With key screens approved, and knowing that the client would be building on the back of a Bootstrap theme, we then identified repeating elements and design patterns within the app to create an initial component library, which allowed us and the development team to produce the best experience possible in the time given.

After some back and forth with lo-fidelity wireframes, we received good feedback from client, stakeholders and select users. Development was started, and we were given dedicated time to focus on the brand identity and were able to refine the visual concepts for the UI, which would be filtered into the production version of the app.

Visually representing data usage is a core theme in the Vizion.ai product, so this was incorporated into the logo mark, while also taking influence from the product name in the form of a “V” in motion, symbolizing the evolution of Vizion.ai from Panzura’s existing suite of products. For the logotype, we chose and modified quite a thick, rounded sans-serif typeface that appears modern and friendly yet still conveys a professional nature for the enterprise brand.
Lastly, to continue the theme of approachability and to show examples of the brand in action, I created a set of illustration examples to be used throughout the application for on-boarding and confirmations for various interactions.

Thanks to the client for doing such a great job of communicating user goals clearly, and quickly providing feedback and pain-points, we were able to create a successful MVP despite the very tight timeline for the project. My geographical location, working remotely from my base in Japan also played well to our advantage by allowing us to further streamline our workflow. While US based SeaLab worked on tasks during their day, in their late evening when my day began, I was able to continue to rapidly iterate on ideas and designs before batting them back over at the end of my day, and vise-versa. We were effectively able to work a 24 hour cycle between us, which really helped to accelerate the initial phase of this project. Of course, what with SeaLab and I having collaborated on projects many times over the years, we’ve become dab-hands at playing global design-ping-pong!

"Mike is wonderfully consistent with communication and never ceases to impress me with his creative talents. Even though he lives in an opposite time zone, he is one of the easiest people to communicate with and I will never hesitate to work with someone across the world because of this experience! I recommend Mike highly to anyone who needs design."
